Two former Tipperary players helped New York to create some Gaelic Football history last night in the US when New York won their first ever Connacht SFC championship when defeating Leitrim in Gaelic Park, The Bronx, New York City.

In an amazing game that ended at 0-15 each, the Exiles prevailed in a penalty shootout to claim the historic win, something they hadn’t ever achieved before in 22 years of competition.

Former Tipperary players Alan Campbell (Moyle Rovers) and Bill Maher (Kilsheelan/Kilcash) played big parts in the magnificent victory. Both players had been great stalwarts for Tipperary over many years starting in the 2020 Munster final win over Cork, and also helping in the great run to the All-Ireland final in 2016.

It was Alan Campbell second year lining out for New York since he moved there a couple of years ago, while Bill Maher only departed for the Big Apple last year having helped Tipperary during last year’s promotion campaign up to Division 3.

Congratulations to both on writing themselves into the history books.
