The Suir Lee Knot special will arrive at Carrick-on-Suir station at 12.39 tomorrow, Saturday
A special train organised by a voluntary group of rail enthusiasts, known as Táilte Tours, is to stop in Carrick-on-Suir tomorrow, Saturday, April 15.
The Suir Lee Knot special is heading from Cork to Waterford, the first direct train between the two cities in many years.
Worked by a Japanese-built 2600 class, rarely seen on the Tipperary line, the special will arrive in Carrick-on-Suir station at 12.39, where passengers will disembark to view a vintage 1950s diesel locomotive, No 226, which has been restored to working order in the old goods shed by fellow voluntary organisation the Irish Traction Group.
It will be the first time that the locomotive has been shown to public since it was restored.
Named after one of Ireland’s largest steam locomotives, Táilte Tours is a voluntary-led committee that seeks to raise funds and awareness for Ireland’s smaller railway heritage groups.
The group aims to do this through the organisation of rail tours and other railway-themed events throughout Ireland.
