Council's housing section is also changing location

Tipperary County Council's motor tax office is moving to Town Hall in Clonmel

The main council chamber and nearby offices at Clonmel's Town Hall will also be refurbished

The current motor tax office at County Hall in Emmet Street, Clonmel will be relocating to the Town Hall in nearby Parnell Street.

Other works being undertaken in the Town Hall include the upgrading of the plumbing and electrical systems and the refurbishment of the main council chamber and nearby offices.

In the Tipperary County Council building at Emmet Street, the housing section will relocate to the current motor tax office building on Emmet Street.

“This will be the new dedicated housing entrance for members of the public to discuss all of their housing issues with the staff in housing,” says Cllr Siobhán Ambrose.

“In addition, there will also be a significant reconfiguration of offices within the building”.

The upgrading of the Town Hall and county council building will be carried out by local contractor Mulcahy Construction and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Cllr Ambrose said “I welcome the upcoming commencement of these works, which were delayed due to Covid.

“I have no doubt that when these changes are completed it will make it easier for members of the public to access the housing section of the council, in addition to also bringing additional footfall onto Parnell Street with the relocation of the tax office.

“I am also delighted that refurbishment works to the old section of the Town Hall, including the main chamber, are also included as part of these works, as this is a wonderful old historic section of the building that is used on a daily basis by the council”.

Cllr Ambrose welcomed the fact that local contractor Mulcahy Construction was the successful contractor for this tender, which meant that in addition to the positive works taking place on these two council buildings that this project would also be supporting local jobs.

She thanked the management and staff in both council buildings for the time and effort that had gone into bringing this project to construction stage.

She said she is looking forward to the commencement of these works at the end of this month, and their estimated completion at the end of the year.
