East Munster U18 Plate Final
Cashel/Thurles RFC 24
Dungarvan RFC 15
On Friday night the Cashel/Thurles RFC U18 team headed to Carrick to play the East Munster Final. You could not have asked for better conditions to play rugby in. Cashel/Thurles started the game strong with two tries in the first 15 minutes. The first from Conor Kennedy then quickly followed by one from Fionn Fogarty which he duly converted and gave Cashel Thurles a 12 points to nil lead.
It wasn’t long before Dungarvan got on the scoreboard with a penalty in front of the posts which was quickly converted by the Waterford 10. Minutes before half-time Cashel/Thurles had a scrum in the middle of the park Stephen Shaw made a break through the middle which led to quick ball out wide where Paddy Kennedy was in the right position to score the try.
The second half kicked off and 10 minutes in Dungarvan scored their first try. Which left the score 17-8. But minutes later Paddy Kennedy made a break through the middle to score again converted by Cian Ralph. Following a sustained attack from the Dungarvan men, and a huge defensive effort from Cashel Thurles, Dungarvan got in for the last score of the match leaving Cashel Thurles to win the game 24-15.
It was a great game of rugby played in good spirit. Every player from 1 to 23 gave their all and played as a team to win the final. Well done to each and everyone of them. It’s onwards and upwards for next season now boys whether ye are still playing u18 or progressing to adult rugby.
Congratulations to everyone involved on bringing home the first piece of silverware this season for Thurles Rugby Club.
