St Mary's Newport celebrate u15 boys hurling Munster Championship win

By Cormac Ryan and Oisín Kennedy, first-year students
Congratulations to our under 15 boys hurling team, who were crowned Munster Champions before Easter holidays, against a tough Ard Scoil na Mara, Tramore side in Fethard town park.
The team started the game as well as they could as Oisin Kennedy settled them with the first point of the game, soon followed by Cormac Shannahan with a well worked team goal.
They kept the scoreboard ticking, and ten minutes later, Dylan Barry took his chance with another well worked goal.
St Mary’s went in at half time with a good lead. Coming into the second half we were against a strong wind but with the addition of Harry Ryan, Cormac Ryan and Aaron Lane, there was some fresh legs in the team.
Tramore shook us up when they brought the game back to within one point. But then a superb free from Conor Mcloughlin settled the lads from St Mary’s again.
The next play was vital as Tramore were working hard for a goal but our backs, led by Luke O’Sullivan and Kevin Fitzpatrick, put in a display and kept them out. Fintan Sheridan put a super display in midfield and played like a true captain.
The team had great team support from the sideline which kept them from conceding. In the end the boys were crowned worthy Munster Champions!
Special thanks to Mr F. Carew, Mr R. Leamy and Mr J.P. Grace for their coaching and mentoring of the team.
