On cross-country or roads, Dymphna Ryan remains a star of Tipperary athletics and will be the one to beat again on Sunday in Clerihan.
The County Masters Road Championships will take place in Clerihan next Sunday, hosted by Clonmel AC.
The programme gets underway at 12 noon with the County Masters 3k race for both Men and Women over 65 with three to score on each team.
Then we will have the Master’s Women and Men over 35 to over 60 age groups competing over 6k. Here it will be three to score on the Women’s over 35 and over 45 teams with four athletes to score on the men’s over 35 and three athletes to score on the Men’s over 50 teams. Competition will be keen in all the categories.
The Masters 6k race will see both Men and Women over 35 and under 65 competing. This event usually attracts a very good attendance and competition should be very competitive in all the various age categories.
WARM FAVOURITE
Dymphna Ryan of Dundrum, the reigning Munster Senior Road champion will be a warm favourite to retain her title on Sunday. She can expect good competition from athletes like Kealey Tideswell of Clonmel and Eileen McCullough of Thurles Crokes.
In the team event we can expect a close competition between Dundrum, Thurles Crokes and Clonmel, while all three clubs are expected to have a major say in the over 45 team event as well.
However, do not count out Club like Moyne, Mooreabbey Milers and Templemore of having a say in the destination of the team medals in both categories.
In the men’s race we can expect a great race if all the eligible athletes compete. In the team event over 35 we can expect good competition between Thurles Crokes, Carrick-on-Suir, Templemore, Mooreabbey Milers, Clonmel and Dundrum while in the over 50 team event competition will be keen between Mooreabbey Milers, Dundrum and Clonmel.
