Theatre fans flocked to Carrick-on-Sur’s Brewery Lane Theatre last week to see the Hugh Leonard play - Love in the Title.

Brewery Lane Drama Group’s production of the play featuring an all-female cast, was sold-out for its six-night run that began on Monday, April 24 and finished last Saturday night, April 29.

The public appetite for live theatre performances is certainly high in Carrick-on-Suir as the play opened two days after the final curtain fell on Carrick-on-Suir Musical Society’s acclaimed Irish adult amateur premiere production of Phantom of the Opera in the town’s Strand Theatre.

Brewery Lane Drama Group PRO Walter Dunphy said they were delighted the play was performed to packed houses at Brewery Lane last week.

The two act drama, which was Hugh Leonard’s final performed play, centres on the relationship between a grandmother, daughter and granddaughter. Those roles were ably filled by Suzanne Shine, Aileen O’Keeffe and Jane Tennyson. The play was directed by Maria Clancy.

Mr Dunphy said Brewery Lane Theatre will host another drama – The Vagina Monologues for one night on Friday, May 19 at 8pm.

The production is being staged by Pop Up Theatre and will be in aid of Cuan Saor women’s refuge in Clonmel.

It was recently staged in The Coachman Bar in Clonmel for two nights.

Tickets cost €16.50 and can be purchased online at www.ticketsource.eu/brewery-lane-theatre.
