Multi-agency effort ensures injured walker is rescued from Slievenamon

SEMRA, the NAS and the Coastguard Rescue 117 helicopter were all involved in helping an injured walker

A walker got into difficulty yesterday afternoon on Slievenamon after injuring their leg on the south Tipperary mountain.

The walker fell on the mountain and suffered a debilitating lower leg injury which prevented movement. The  South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association were alerted shortly after 1pm and made their way immediately to the scene of the accident.

The National Ambulance Service personnel attended the scene also and the Rescue 117 helicopter from Waterford was also called and arrived on scene just before 2.30pm.

SEMRA members assisted the winchman in moving the casualty down the mountain to a suitable area so that transfer to the helicopter could be completed.

By 3.30pm the casualty was airlifted by helicopter from the mountain to safety.
