Andy Moloney pleaded for EV chargers for Cahir
It makes no sense that there are no electric vehicle charging points in Cahir at the height of the tourist season with a climate crisis spiralling out of control.
The fact that there are no EV charging points for EV owners across the tourist town of Cahir has been highlighted once more at a Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District meeting.
Councillor Andy Moloney said that the lack of facilities is putting the town at an economic disadvantage. He said the lack of modern facilities could mean tourists will pick another town to visit instead that has better facilities: “I have highlighted it last year and the year before and there is still none there.
“With all the hired cars coming in now tourism is very busy and there is not one charging point in Cahir to top up. We are at an economic disadvantage on the tourism trail and we don't have somewhere to charge.
“I know we have spoken to Michael Tierney and we have identified the place but we still don’t have anywhere to plug in,” he said, adding that he had brought this to the council’s attention again and again but still nothing changed.
“At the moment in Cahir you couldn’t charge a razor not to mind a car. That is concerning as we have been talking about it a long time.
“Not even one and I go to other places and I see them parked up five or six in a row so we need to push ‘Easy Go’ or ESB or whoever it is.”
He says this could result in people avoiding coming into or returning to Cahir this summer. It was heard at the meeting that the council will follow up with Roads Capital as they have an agreement with Easy Go to install them.
The council representative Anthony Coleman said they have agreed on a location and where they should go before stating they would get an update as soon as possible.
