Tipperary pupil is crowned the best speller throughout Munster

Colin O'Brien from Cashel progresses to the All-Ireland final on this Thursday

12-year-old Colin O’Brien from St John the Baptist Boys National School in Tipperary is winner of the Munster Eason Spelling Bee Final.

He will now go on to the All-Ireland final on this Thursday June 8.

Celebrating its tenth year, the Eason Spelling Bee competition provides a fun and educational outlet for school children, encouraging them to expand their vocabulary and develop their confidence.

As well as the prestigious title of Eason Spelling Bee 2023 champion, the top bee will also take home a collection of books for their school library, worth €7,500, as well as a personal collection of books worth €500.

This year, over 500 schools nationwide competed against each other in a bid to win the coveted prize.
