The Irish Blood Transfusion Service issue a call for blood as stocks dwindle

Blood donations are accepted in Ballykisteen Hotel this evening

The search is on for Tipperary blood donors as a pre-amber alert is issued by The Irish Blood Transfusion Service.

There is currently three days of stock, but in order to meet demand they need to ensure there is seven days stock at all times.

This alert means that hospitals have been asked to be careful and reduce their blood stock holding.

Today The Irish Blood Transfusion Service are in Ballykisteen Hotel just outside Tipperary Town on the Limerick side from 4.50pm to 8.10pm. If you would like to book an appointment time you can do so by phoning 1800 222 111.

On Sunday next they will be be in Nenagh where there will be at the Abbey Court Hotel from just before midday until 3.10pm.

New donors, or returning donors (5 years since last donation) are required to call 1800 731 137 to make their first appointment to give blood.

Prior to calling, the recommendation is to do the ‘New Donor Eligibility Quiz’ to check if there are any reasons you might not be able to donate. Details can be found here:
