Tipperary's Sharlene Mawdsley got Ireland off to the perfect start at the European Games in Poland this week, taking top points with victory in the women’s 400 metres in 51.55.
This was the second fastest time of the Newport woman's career.
The win earned 15 points for Ireland in the European Team Championships, which continue until July 2.
Mawdsley was Ireland’s only winner on day one of the three-day athletics competition.
"I’m delighted that I was able to kick the team off and start it this way, it’s amazing," she stated.
121 Team Ireland athletes will be competing in events across seventeen sports during the championships.
