Members of the Presentation Primary School's Green School Committee carry the school's 8th Green Flag in procession at the recent official opening of the school's outdoor education area.
Carrick-on-Suir’s Presentation Primary School showed once again it’s top of the class for promoting a clean environment when its 8th An Taisce Green Flag was raised at the official opening of its Le Chéile outdoor education area.
The honour of raising the flag was given to two Presentation sisters – the school’s retired former principal Sr Veronica Casey and Sr Antoinette Dilworth who represented the school’s patron, the Bishop of Waterford & Lismore at the opening ceremony on Friday, June 2.
Students from the school’s Green School Committee carried the flag in a ceremonial procession to the flag pole.
Principal Pat Robinson said the school was awarded the flag for Global Citizenship projects it carried out that focused on the environmental protection of the world’s oceans and seas.
He pointed out that the school is now working on achieving its 9th Green Flag.
Mr Robinson said the honour of raising the flag was given to Sr Veronica and Sr Antoinette because the Presentation Sisters were the reason why they have such a lovely school.
“Thank you for all you do and continue to do for us,” he said to the sisters.
The Presentation Primary School isn’t the only Carrick-on-Suir education institution to raise a Green Flag in recent weeks.
Carrick-on-Suir Further Education & Training Centre, located at the former Comeragh College campus at Greenside, was also awarded the prestigious environmental flag at an event hosted by An Taisce Green Schools at Hotel Kilkenny last month.
It is the first Tipperary Education & Training Board FET Centre to receive the honour. It earned the flag for work carried out at the centre on eliminating litter and reducing waste.
The Green Flag was raised on the grounds of Carrick FET Centre on May 12 by VTOS learner Shane Nugent. Tipperary ETB’s Director of Further Education & Training Colin Cummins attended the ceremony.
