Tipp Junior camogie team face Cavan in All Ireland championship with top spot on offer

Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Junior Championship

Tipperary VS Cavan – Saturday 24th June, Kingspan Breffni Park @ 2pm

It was one way traffic in the County Camogie Grounds when Tipperary took on Wicklow in the opening round of the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Junior Championship.

With only three teams in the group Tipperary have already secured a quarter final spot but a win a way to Cavan who equally had a big score haul against Wicklow will mean Tipperary top the group.

All the group winners will go into a draw with a chance of going straight into a semi-final. As well as the possibility of a direct place in an All-Ireland semi-final a win away from home will give David Sullivan’s side huge momentum heading into the crucial knockout stages.

Jean Kelly stole the headlines against Wicklow with an amazing personal tally of 5-4. Four of her goals came in the second half as Wicklow really struggled with her running.

Clodagh Horgan was positioned at full forward against Wicklow and she finished with five points to play to help her side to a comprehensive victory.

Cavan are All-Ireland contenders having reached last year’s semi-finals while also beating Tipperary in the County Camogie Grounds in the group stages.

Last year’s meeting was a very close encounter. Tipp lead at the break 1-5 to 0-7. However, Cavan had the better of the second half and had a six point lead before Tipperary mounted a comeback.

The Premier had a difficult free to level the game late on but Aoife McLoughney saw her shot drift right and wide.
Cavan’s performance was consistent throughout while Tipperary were guilty of fading out of the game and playing in fits and spurts.

This is something that they still need to address with a huge performance for 60 plus minutes on Saturday needed.
