Carrick-on-Suir’s Further Education & Training Centre is advising people interested in pursuing one of its courses in the autumn to apply now to ensure their place.
The current academic year’s courses at the Tipperary Education & Training Board (ETB) run centre are finishing this month and the college will be taking a summer break in July and August.
Its full-time, part-time certified and non-certified courses ranging from QQI Level 1 to Level 6 will resume in early September.
The FET centre, located at the former Comeragh College building at Greenside, opened its doors to the public on Tuesday morning May 23 to showcase its large range of career and personal development courses.
The open day was an opportunity for people to chat with staff and students, visit course information stands and take part in information talks and guided tours.
There were information stands on courses in Childcare, Early Learning. Employment Skills, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Computers, Barista Skills, Healthcare, Home Repairs & Maintenance at the event.
The centre’s full-time courses are Business & Office Adminstration, which is a QQI Level 5 year long course, the Vocational & Training Opportunities Scheme, commonly known as VTOS, and Pathways to Employment Skills, which is a two-year Level 4 course.
The Pathways to Employment Skills course provides training in computers, retail and office skills, web design, book keeping, enterprise, word processing, manual handling and Barista skills. It helps students with career planning and offers students the opportunity to do work experience.
There is a big demand from the local immigrant and refugee community for the centre’s English language classes for people who speak another language.
Some other courses offered at the centre include Culinary Skills, Emergency Medical Technician, Get Connected with your Smartphone, Horticulture, Numeracy & Maths, Reading & Writing Skills, Woodwork, Mindfulness, Interior Design.
