Tipperary musical festival will be a celebration of local and national talent

Clonmel singer Eve Whelan is on the When Next We Meet bill

With When Next We Meet fast approaching, The Nationalist will be doing a weekly run down on what you can expect from this exciting local boutique music festival.
This is more than just an outdoor summer gig. When Next We Meet is an immersive festival experience, with the convenience of its town-centred location.

This boutique music festival is a gem of an experience for music fans and locals, food and festival lovers alike, where you will feel part of an intimate celebration, hidden away from the outside world.
The festival line-up is designed to have an all-out electronic music party on Saturday July22, while a mesmerising folk music line-up will entrance audiences on Sunday July 23. This year features heavy weights of the Irish music scene with Saturday July 22 bringing festival electronic favourites to Clonmel, including Daithí, Talos, Kyoto Love Hotel and asurprise after party guest DJ.

July 23 has Irish music royalty Lisa Hannigan headlining the bill, with Galway’s Niamh Regan and Tipperary raised Smythy playing beforehand.
But that’s not all.

The festival organisers began.
When Next We Meet with a strong mission at its core–to raise the profile of local original artists and to create a platform for them to hone their skills and network with Ireland’s music industry professionals and artists.
“Clonmel doesn’t have a venue programming original music.
“Early career artists of the area have very few avenues in which they can gain invaluable playing experience.
LIVE MUSIC
“Being seen and heard in Ireland is really difficult for original musicians. By being able to play original music live in their own town and to have other artists visiting the area frequently to play, opportunities will open up for these artists, and connections will be made nationally.

LOCAL ARTISTS
“We are delighted that this year we are staging a second local artists acoustic stage in the gardens,” say the festival organisers.
From 4pm on both nights of When Next We Meet local artists and DJs will perform to the happy festival-goers in Raheen House’s Gardens.
DJ’s Paul Sheehan (a.k.a. Press Play Repeat) and Lorcan Ryan will kick festivities off in the right tone, keeping spirits high across the two nights.
The acoustic stage will see performers EJ Mae, Ross Boland, Eve Whelan, The Cedartowns ‘lite’, Stuart Connolly and The Wood of O play across the weekend.
For the past two years, When Next We Meet organisers have run online music industry mentoring workshops with some of Irelands top music industry professionals.

This year, thanks to funding from Creative Ireland, they are excited to programme these fantastic local artists alongside some ofthe country’s most well-known and loved artists. As a direct result of the festival last summer, connections were made that led to Clonmel artists playing further afield.
Vale toured with HousePlants on their winter tour across Ireland playing in Whelan’s Dublin, The Roisin Dubh Galway, Cyprus Avenue Cork andDolan’s Warehouse Limerick.

EVE WHELAN
Local singer-songwriter Eve Whelan went on to play with SebaSafe, saying,“Over the course of the weekend I made some wonderful friends and contacts and as a result of meeting at the festival, I was invited to perform later in the year at an event organised by one of the headlining acts.”
