Councillor Bill Clear has been elected Mayor of Naas Municipal District for a one-year term.
Veteran local politician Cllr Seamie Moore was elected as Deputy Mayor.
Cllr Clear said: “I’m delighted and humbled to be elected Mayor of the Naas MD.
“It is an honour of a lifetime, and I’m grateful to everyone for the opportunity.”
Cllr Clear said on Facebook that he was delighted that his two sons joined him for the occasion but added that his wife Annemarie and daughter Sarah are currently abroad.

He added: “I’m looking forward to the year ahead and working with Cllr Seamie Moore as Deputy Mayor of Naas and all fellow councillors.
“Thanks a million to all my colleagues who voted for me.
“I really appreciate it.”
Cllr Clear, who has lived in Naas for 20 years, is vice chair of Naas Tidy Towns.
He is also chair of the Naas Greenway project - a cycle and walking network that connects all estates to all schools and sports clubs in the area.
He is vice chair of Naas Access and Disability Group and coaches athletics and football.
