County Tipperary Golf and Country Club who won the East Munster Championship, and who were presented with the winning pennant by Mary Bergin of Golf Ireland, having defeated Fota Golf Club in Fermoy.
East Munster Champions
Our Mixed Team are the new East Munster Champions after defeated Foto Island Golf Club on the 19th hole in the final match to win 3/2 at Fermoy Golf Club. It was a gripping final from start to finish in a very tightly contested competition with excellent golf played by both sides.
First out for County Tipperary, Brian Slattery & Isobel Hayes followed by Ollie Carr & Liz Higgins. The third team to tee off was Brian Everard and & Sheena Ryan followed by Andrew Burke and Caroline O’Dwyer and filling that vital finishing spot we had Declan O’Dwyer and Margaret O’Connell. Everyone played their hearts out in an extremely challenging competition that would sap the energy of the very fittest.
The Managers of the team deserve a special mention, Tony Corcoran, Margaret Ryan, Pat Ryan & Patrice Moran. At times they looked more stressed then the players. All the team members were very complementary of a very sporting & top class Foto Island team.
A sincere congratulations to our team from Captains Jacinta Coman, Darren Hayes, President Paddy Fitzgerald and all the Members of County Tipperary Golf & Country Club. It was great to see our Golf Professional Marian Riordan in attendance & Dundrum House Resort Manager Richard Nolan who sponsored a well deserved meal for the team and Managers in Fermoy Golf Club.
The next outing is on August 27 in Youghal Golf Club against the winners of the South Leinster area final between Lucan & Carton House Golf Clubs.
