Nenagh Éire Óg's celebrations after winning back-to-back North senior hurling titles last weekend will have been dampened somewhat this week with the news that Jake Morris needs surgery on an injury picked up late on in the divisional final win over Kiladangan last weekend.
Morris came out the worst in a nasty late collision with James Quigley late on during last Sunday's game and it has since been confirmed that the star forward suffered a fractured eye socket, and he will now undergo surgery in the next week to fix the issue.
As a result, Morris will likely miss out on the group stages of the county championship and is in a race against time to be available for the knockout stages - with Nenagh already assured of a preliminary quarter-final due to their win in the divisional championship.
Morris has been in electric form for Nenagh so far this year, notching an incredible 1-20 from play in his three North championship games, and his scoring prowess will be a big miss for Éire Óg, who get their county championship group campaign off and running with a tough game against Drom & Inch this Saturday evening in Templemore.
