At the Fianna Fáil Cashel LEA selection convention, Dr Martin Mansergh, Sen Gerry Horkan, Cllr Roger Kennedy, Deputy Jackie Cahill and Labhrás Ó Murchú
Fianna Fáil has selected Cllr Roger Kennedy to run in next June's local elections in the Cashel-Tipperary LEA following its selection convention in Brú Ború, Cashel.
The convention was opened by Chairperson of Cashel Fianna Fáil Comhairle Ceantair John McCarthy, who welcomed members and thanked them for attending. Sen Gerry Horkan then chaired the proceedings.
Cllr Kennedy, was selected as the party’s candidate for the 2024 Local Elections unopposed.
Cllr Kennedy, was first elected in 2004 and his priorities for the upcoming elections include securing the future of St Patrick’s Hospital, investment in water infrastructure, investment in our roads, housing, education, and boosting tourism & economic development in the area.
“I am privileged and grateful to be selected by the members of Fianna Fáil to contest next years local elections. I will bring as much passion and dedication as I did at every election I’ve fought and I look forward to winning a seat for the party next year and continuing to work hard for the people of Cashel-Tipperary," he said following his selection.
Deputy Jackie Cahill said: “I am delighted that Roger has been selected. He is an impeccable public representative with unwavering commitment to working hard for the people of this area. And we look forward to next years local elections when we knock at every door and present a great record of delivery and show the people that Fianna Fáil has done what it has always done, deliver for the people.”
Deputy Cahill spoke on a range of topics - the economy, housing, health, education, agriculture, anti-social behaviour and climate change.
The convention was also addressed by former Minister and TD, Dr Martin Mansergh, former senator Labhrás Ó Murchú, and former Cashel Town councillor Mattie Finnerty.
Fianna Fáil has held selection conventions in six of the eight LEAs in Tipperary and has chosen the following candidates; Cllr Micheál Anglim (Cahir LEA); Cllr Kieran Bourke (Carrick-on-Suir LEA); Cllr Imelda Goldsboro (Carrick-on-Suir LEA); Cllr Roger Kennedy (Cashel-Tipperary LEA); Kay Cahill Skehan (Thurles LEA); Cllr Seán Ryan (Thurles LEA); Ryan O’Meara (Nenagh LEA); James Collins (Newport LEA), and Cllr John Carroll (Newport LEA).
Conventions in both Clonmel LEA and Roscrea-Templemore LEA will be held in the coming weeks.
