Moycarkey Coolcroo AC who won the coveted Inter Club title for the very first time at the Mooreabbey Milers AC-promoted County 10 Mile Road Championships last Sunday in Galbally
Mooreabbey Milers AC promoted the County 10 Mile Road Championships last Sunday in Galbally. The weather held up for most of the race, as athletes had little rain to contend with, but conditions were humid. As the lead athletes approached the first mile marker, Mossy Bracken of Moycarkey Coolcroo AC, the defending champion, moved to the front and soon opened up a nice lead. By halfway he had a good commanding lead, and he kept that strong pace going to come home very worthy and convincing champion in 55 mins 1 sec to retain his title.
Then we had Dermot Gorman of Carrick-on-Suir AC running very well, when moving into second place early in the race and going on to win the silver medal in 55 mins 17 secs; great performances by these two athletes. The battle for the bronze position was a very close affair for most of the race and it was only decided on the downward run to the finish line, with Barry Hartnett of Dundrum AC winning the bronze medal in 58 mins 9 secs just four seconds ahead of Paddy Cummins of Moycarkey Coolcroo, with Louis Rice of Fethard a further six seconds back in fifth place.
This championship race also incorporated the master’s category.
Over 35 – first, Paddy Cummins Moycarkey Coolcroo AC 58:13, second, Tom O’Connell Dundrum AC 62:40, third, Shane Mullaney Moycarkey Coolcroo AC 66:17.
Over 40 awards, first, Declan Ryan Thurles Crokes 58:54, second, Liam Shanahan Thurles Crokes 62:23 and third Michael Murray Templemore AC 62:45.
Over 45 Awards, first Nigel O’Flaherty Clonmel AC 63:50, second, Keith Fraher Carrick-on-Suir 64:55 and third Denis McCullough Thurles Crokes 67:13.
Over 50 Awards 1st Peter Madden Templemore AC 63:04, 2nd Ger Hanley Mooreabbey Milers AC 70:02 and 3rd Declan Hogan Dundrum AC 80:34.
Over 55 awards 1st Tom Blackburn Mooreabbey Milers AC 64:51, 2nd Fintan Rice Fethard AC 65:42 and 3rd Jim Halley Dundrum AC 70:46.
Over 60 awards 1st Willie O’Donoghue Mooreabbey Milers AC 63:15 and 2nd Sam O Meara Templemore AC 73:40. Liam Butler Dundrum AC was 1st over 65 in 79 mins 22 secs.
