Three generations of Clonmel Cunninghams - Bert, Jason and James - enjoying the Adventure Course at Slievenamon Golf Club last week.
Busy week at Slievenamon Golf Club
Last week was full on at Slievenamon this past week, with competitions coming thick and fast and high spirits on the course (and indeed on our Adventure Course, where parents are making the most of the fine weather to bring their offspring for a round of mini golf, or to test their mettle on the Pedal Go Carts or on the Obstacle Course. There has been high good humour all round).
Results
Results this week start with the Vale Oil Qualifier on 11 August, where Pat McGarry, Brendan Clancy and Joe Corbett all came home with a score of 38, the hair's breadth of distance between them being resolved on count back. Meanwhile, in the Men’s Weekend Singles Padraig Lahart scored 42 to take top slot, with Ian Gough winning Gross with 25 and young Kelvin Ryan scoring an impressive 39 to take 2nd place.
Seniors Golf
Our Seniors enjoyed an away day on Monday 14 August in Faithless, county Waterford, when 38 members (13 teams) played a Champagne Scramble with 2 scores to count. Winners were Team 6 with 94 points - John Lacy, Ernie Lake and Noel Byrne. 2nd place went to Team 5 with 93 points - Paddy Bambrick, Terry O’Brien and the ubiquitous A N Other. 3rd place went to Team 2 with 92 points - Rory Doheny, Eddie Daly and Robert Phelan.
Mixed Scramble
Due to the Away Day, Monday’s Mixed Scramble was missing some of its regular players, but nevertheless remained well attended. 1st place was taken by Brian Moore, Trevor Gough and Gabrielle Scofield, with a nett score of 33.5. Second place was secured by Michael Lawrence, Conor Dunlea and Nora Daly on 36.3, while third spot went to Adrian Furlong, Brendan Cockburn and Margaret English on 36.4.
LADIES GOLF
Our Ladies Sunday/Tuesday 18 Hole Stableford Competition saw Brid Delehanty take top slot on 45 points, with Marie Holohan in second on 35 points and Teresa O’Brien pipped to third place on a countback. Meanwhile, Patricia Costello won Tuesday’s 9 Hole Stableford Competition on 19 points.
A golfing juggernaut
Also on Tuesday, Pat Slattery, a virtual golfing juggernaut at the minute, won his latest round of the McGarry Cup in a fabulous battle with Robbie Walsh. Pat could be seen nervously discussing tactics with Rachael Cahill before the match, with Rachael suspected of tutoring him in some meditation techniques!
Seniors Rumble
Our Seniors were in action again on Wednesday when 41 Members (14 Teams) play a Rumble in fantastic weather, with two scores to count. Winners were Team 10 with 96 points - Rory Doheny, Don O’Connell and Dan Hayes. 2nd place went to Team 9 with 92 points - Danny Ryan, Mick Burke and Jim Cleary. Meanwhile Team 1 rounded off the winners in 3rd place with 92 points - Ernie Makem, Joe Corbett and John Ryan taking the honours.
The week was rounded out on Thursday with our Ladies 9 Hole Stableford, which was won by Patricia Costello on 21 points, with Nora Daly in 2nd on 18 points.
Three generations of Cunninghams
Meanwhile on our Mini Golf Course, three generations of Cunninghams came out on Thursday to test their skills of dexterity and patience. Bert, Jason and James showed great presence of mind as they manoeuvred around the Course, but rumour has it Jason was the one who showed the older generation what was what!
