Sharlene Mawdsley represented Ireland with gusto in last night’s Women’s 400M Semi-final at the World Athletics Championships in Hungary.
After a gruelling schedule, in which she competed well in the Mixed 4×400 relay final on Saturday and anchored Ireland to 6th place, she took to the track once more last night and finished 7th in a time of 51.78 seconds narrowly missing out on a place in tomorrow’s 400M final.
The Newport AC sprinter has developed into a top class athlete in recent montsh and the 25-year-old is set to continue on in this championships over the coming days.
She spoke with Athletics Ireland after last night’s race in Budapest and said that she felt every metre of the race. Also competing last night was Rhasidat Adeleke who finished in a time of 49.78 seconds.
The Tallaght sprinter qualified automatically from last night’s semi-finals for the finals despite a slow start to her race and is a medal prospect for Ireland in the final.
