Multiple events in Clonmel cancelled out of respect for grieving families

Multiple events in Clonmel have been cancelled out of respect for the grieving families of four young people who died in a collision yesterday evening (August 25). 

The Boston Scientific Half-Marathon and Clonmel Pride are among those who have cancelled their events. 

Clonmel Athletic Club (AC) confirmed the cancellation of the half-marathon in a statement posted this morning (August 26). 

They stated, "In light of the heartbreaking tragedy that has befallen Clonmel in the past 24 hours, it is with the utmost respect that we feel the postponement of of our race is the correct thing to do." 

Clonmel Pride also posted a statement: "Tonight our thoughts are consumed by the profound loss that has befallen our town. We offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends who are grappling with this immense sorrow.

"In light of this heart-wrenching event, we have made the decision to cancel our Pride parade and Pride at the Plaza events planned for the Clonmel Pride Festival tomorrow. It is with the utmost respect for the grieving families, friends and community as a whole that we take this step.

"At this time of profound sorrow, let us embrace one another, offering solace and comfort to those who need it most." 

Clonmel Parkrun also cancelled their planned run. 

Their statement reads: "Tonight our thoughts are consumed by the profound loss that has befallen our town. We offer our deepest condolences to the families and friends who are dealing with this immense sorrow. 

"In light of this heart-wrenching event, we have made the decision to cancel our Pride parkrun tomorrow. It is with the utmost respect for the grieving families, friends and community as a whole that we take this step.

"At this time of profound sorrow, let us embrace one another, offering solace and comfort to those who need it most.
May they rest in peace."

Cahir Park AFC also released a statement: "Due to the awful tragedy in Clonmel last evening all games involving Clonmel teams are cancelled today as a mark of respect." 

Clonmel Celtic stated: "After last night’s tragic event all Clonmel Celtic activities have been cancelled today in memory of the victims and as a mark of respect to the grieving families. May God watch over them."
