Applefest has announced a busy programme of events for September festival in Clonmel
Clonmel Applefest is back for its sixth edition celebrating the heritage, food and nature of south Tipperary through the prism of the arts from September 21 to September 24.
Events this year include such favourites as the Harvest Fair and Procession, (September 23), which will see performers and members of the public mingle to bring the Wisdom Salmon to the river and perform a fire ritual with Rogù Arts.
A new book under the tile of Elders of Clonmel will be launched, colourful bespoke flag celebrating the local biodiversity hung and a full dance evening for Culture Night with Baile An Salsa, the Fresh Air Collective and RSAG takes place at the new civic plaza.
Mushroom foraging and a talk on the vernacular landscape are also on the menu, with a Storyslam and the Burning Cave, a new experimental Spoken Word Cabaret, featuring as new additions to the four day festival’s programmE

Thursday September 21-
6pm: Elders of Clonmel Book launch at the county museum.
7.30pm: Laura Dunne’s ‘Beyond Adam and Eve’ art opening, Narrow Space Gallery.
8.30pm: STORYSLAM, hosted by sheep farmer and writer Joe Whelan, Bakers Backroom- €10.
Friday September 22-
3pm: Petrovska Garden Visit, Clonmel- €5
5pm: Storytelling with Orla McGovern at Tipperary Museum- free.
Culture Night on Kickham Plaza
6pm: Music Generation showcase.
7.30pm: Storytelling with Orla McGovern.
8pm: OPEN AIR COLLECTIVE, Jazz/Klezmer Band.
9pm: BAILE AN SALSA, Celtic Salsa
10.30pm: RSAG, Techno Drums
Hoolahoop Fire dancing throughout the evening by Stevie Wicks and Ro Hall.
Saturday September 23
11 am: ‘The vernacular landscape’ lecture by Dr Barry O’Reilly, Main Guard- free.
11-5pm: Harvest Fair: Food, Craft & Arts activities at Suir Island Car park- free.
5-7pm: Eat, meet and greet dinner and pre-procession gathering at Suir Island carpark.
7pm: Harvest Procession, leaves Suir Island carpark to Denis Burke Park
Sunday September 24
11 am: Mushroom foraging walk with Peter Kashuka, Kilsheelan woods- € 5.
2 pm: 'Bugs are Beautiful ': biodiversity walk with Louise Garcia, Greenane Blueway- € 5.
2.30pm: Tapas & Jazz at Bodega Restaurant- booking recommended.
8pm: Burning Cave, Spoken Word Cabaret, Hearn’s Hotel- €5.
