Clonmel Rowing Club is delighted to report that their very own Daire Lynch is going well at the Senior World Rowing Championships being held in Belgrade this week.
Combining with Olympian Philip Doyle (Enniskillen and Belfast), the Irish pair are through to the quarter-finals in the men’s heavyweight double scull event following their second place finish in their heat on Sunday last.
In that heat the American double led from the start but there was only just over a second separating the top four crews for the first marker. Lynch and Doyle sat in third position until they made their move on the French double coming into the final 400 metres. The French crew, including reigning world champion in double scull, Hugo Boucheron who has a new partner this year, could not catch Ireland on the line.
The quarter-finals take place on Wednesday and we all join in wishing Daire and Philip the best of luck in their efforts to progress further.
lreland have a big team at the these championships including Paul O’Donovan/ Fintan McCarthy in lightweight double scull.
TRAINING HAS RESUMED AT THE ISLAND
