Incredible 57lb salmon caught on River Suir - Commemoration on Sunday

The largest recorded salmon caught on the banks of the river Suir near Golden by Michael Maher back in 1874. The fish weighed an incredible 57lbs (4 stone 1 lb)!

All roads will lead to the island Golden village on this Sunday, October 1 at 12 noon.


The official unveiling of a beautiful stone salmon sculpture to commemorate the largest recorded salmon caught on the banks of the river Suir near Golden by Michael Maher back in 1874.

The fish weighed an incredible 57lbs (4 stone 1 lb), according to our Golden angling authority, Marcella Collins.


Master of ceremony will be our own Cllr Michael Fitzgerald.
Refreshments will be served on the Island.
