Peter Ryan is running across Ireland

Drombane native Peter Ryan is making progress on his ultra-marathon run from Malin Head to Mizen Head.

As it stands the Tipperary runner is making ground and is due to arrive in Nenagh this evening at the Golf Club on this, the third day of his challenge.

The Paralympic Cyclist is covering a total of 586 kilometres over five days  and is doing so with a support team running part of the journey alongside him.

Funds raised from the 586km challenge will be donated to the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) to aid the development of the country’s first mobile unit, the Vision Van.

The Vision Van will travel to 150 locations nationwide, providing information, awareness and support services for sight loss and common eye conditions free at the point of delivery.

After being diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy at the age of 19, Peter worked through the challenges of his vision loss by focusing on his passion and love of sport.

He left Edgeworthstown before dawn this morning and he hopes to reach his destination of Nenagh Golf Club at approximately 6.30pm to 7.30pm this evening.

A huge crowd is following his progress along the route and are in place for his arrival there this evening.
