Tipperary County Council’s elected members passed a vote of sympathy at their monthly meeting to the family of well known former hotelier Austin Crowe from Dundrum, who passed away last week.
The vote of sympathy on the death of the former owner of Dundrum House Hotel was proposed by Fine Gael Cllr Michael Fitzgerald who paid tribute to his contribution to the tourism, economic, sporting and political life of Dundrum and county Tipperary.
Cllr Fitzgerald said Austin Crowe was a great businessman and he admired his character.
He recalled how his achievements were secured most of the time by “swimming against the current” and overcoming obstacles in his way.
“His loss to Tipperary will be great and to Dundrum where he was very affectionately known and loved.”
Cllr Fitzgerald also fondly remembered Austin’s late brother Jack, who represented Dundrum as a FG councillor for many years.
Cllr John Crosse from Donohill seconded the vote of sympathy and echoed his Fine Gael colleague in describing Austin Crowe as a great survivor in business, who was always swimming against the tide.
Cashel Fianna Fáil Cllr Roger Kennedy also expressed his sympathy at the council meeting to the Crowe family.
He recalled how Austin Crowe was accorded a Civic Reception by the former South Tipperary County Council in 2005 for his contribution to the tourism and business life of Dundrum and county Tipperary. Mr Crowe’s funeral Mass and burial was in Knockavilla last Saturday.
