Irish Rail, who are the property owners at the railway station car park in Clonmel, will be requested to manage the litter on their property.
As well as contacting Irish Rail, District Administrator Carol Creighton has stated that she also proposes to review the bin usage in the Clonmel area.
Ms Creighton was responding to a call made by Cllr Michael Murphy at a meeting of Clonmel Borough District for a waste collection bin to be provided at Clonmel Railway Station, which he described as “a litter blackspot”.
He said that the station was a key strategic location in the area.
Cllr Murphy also said there were 50 litter bins in Clonmel, some of which were overflowing with rubbish while others were empty.
Cllr Pat English said that litter at the railway station was an ongoing issue for a number of years. It was a pity because the railway and bus station was the first place that people saw when they arrived in the town.
He said that Iarnród Éireann had removed the two bins that had been there and volunteers were trying to keep the area clean.
They needed to drive home to Iarnród Éireann the importance of providing bins there, said Cllr English.
Support for Cllr Murphy’s call was also voiced by Cllr Siobhán Ambrose and District Mayor Richie Molloy.
