Mountain Rescue Association's fundraising walk/run will start in Tipperary

SEMRA has responded to 30 calls for help so far this year

The South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA) will hold its annual 15 kilometres fundraising night walk/run next Saturday November 25.

The event starts from Gaelcholáiste Chéitinn at The Mall in Clonmel.

The route takes in the surrounding countryside over minor roads, forest tracks and open mountain.

Participants have had brilliant views near the finish for the last few years of the event from the cross above Clonmel.

The walk/run will finish up with a sociable chat and some refreshments back at the start point.

This event is open to over 18s only and no pets are allowed.

This is SEMRA’s most important fundraising event of the year and is vital to providing a mountain rescue service for the south east.

Long Way Round raises the funds to cover everyday running costs for the association including diesel for the association’s four wheel drives, medicines, first aid supplies and electricity.

So far this year SEMRA has responded to 30 calls for help, mostly lower leg injuries or people getting lost in fog /early dark.

The event is growing every year, with a huge number of people returning every year to take part.

There were over 800 runners and walkers registered last year.

It’s not a race, it’s an opportunity for people to get out onto the forest trails and mountains in the dark in a safe and relaxed way.

It will be held from approximately 4.45pm-11.15pm.
