Clonmel's Town Hall is one of more than 2,000 protected structures across Tipperary
A Conservation Officer will be appointed for Tipperary.
Welcoming the news, Cllr Siobhán Ambrose says she's delighted to be informed that Tipperary County Council has been given the go-ahead by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage for the appointment of a full-time Conservation Officer in the county.
She says that the council will begin the process of advertising this position and it's hoped that it will be filled early next year.
Cllr Ambrose says that the council has recorded 2,390 private and public protected structures around the county.
"These consist of very old and historic houses, structures or town walls that need the advice and guidance of someone trained in the area of conservation, in order for vital preservation/conservation works to be carried out.
"As someone who has a great interest in protected structures, I'm delighted that this appointment has now been sanctioned by the Department.
"I have no doubt that the new Conservation Officer will play a vital role in supporting the ongoing preservation and maintenance of all of our wonderful protected structures across the county".
