Tipperary students say visit to Midlands Prison was 'beneficial'

On Tuesday, November 21, our 6B religion class went to Portlaoise to visit the Midlands Prison. The trip was organised by our religion teacher Mr Mulcahy.

We travelled by bus to Portlaoise, where we met Assistant Chief Officer Jimmy Grehan. ACO Jimmy has been working as a prison officer for the last 25 years. Jimmy accompanied us around the prison.

The prison tour included information about the prosecution, inductionand day to day life of prisoners in the Midlands Prison.

We learned a lot of invaluable lessons about society and the consequences of our actions from Jimmy.

We think the visit is most certainly very beneficial and recommend it to any other students with the opportunity to visit the prison.
