Tipperary rugby star Brian Gleeson is in the running for the RTÉ Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year award

Loughmore’s Brian Gleeson has made huge strides this year in the rugby world and now as Christmas approaches, he is in the running for another award.

The RTÉ Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year award will be announced this Saturday, December the 16th with a ceremony to take place. 

There is a six-person shortlist for the award with Irish soccer player Evan Ferguson, swimmer Róisín Ní Riain, sailor Eve McMahon, long jumper Elizabeth Ndudi as well as runner Nick Griggs in the running for the award.

Over recent months Brian Gleeson has become a household name as the 19-year-old played a key part in the Ireland U20 Grand Slam winning team, he even scored two tries in the final game against England.

From there he put in stellar displays at the Under 20 World Cup with his contribution helping Ireland reach the World rugby U20 Championship final.

During that tournament Brian picked up two man of the match performances and following the tournament he became part of the Munster rugby set up, making his debut for the province over recent weeks. 

He will also feature heavily going forward for Munster, but the possibility of another award for the Tipperary rugby player will be met with pride across the county. 

The winner will be announced for the RTÉ Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year award on Saturday night.
