Three students from Carrick-on-Suir's Scoil Mhuire Secondary School hosted a charity bake sale and raffle in Carrickbeg Community Hall last week to raise funds for their volunteering trip to Ghana next summer.

The generously supported fundraiser on Sunday, December 10 was organised by 5th year students Maude Geoghegan, Camille Walsh and Eva McMahon with help from their family and friends.

The proceeds of the sale will help fund the students’ two-week trip to Ghana next June where they will assist with a building project and teaching in a small village primary school in the Akuapem Hills close to the city of Accra. The trip is part of the Student Volunteer Projects Abroad initiative.

They are looking forward to the trip where they will be working on the building project, teaching English and organising games with the school’s young children.

Their fundraising events are ongoing since September and more are planned for the months ahead.

They thank everyone including family and friends who worked so hard to bake and contribute many treats for the bake sale. T

hey also thank all local businesses who generously sponsored and contributed gifts for the raffle.

A GoFundMe page: Carrick2Ghana2024 is up and running to help raise funds for the students and they thank everyone who has donated.

“It will be an amazing and life changing experience for us where we look forward to giving back to those in need and less fortunate than us. We would love if you could help us get there and thank you unreservedly for your support,” they said.
