The West Tipp Slashers are one of the 14 teams taking part in Saturday’s fundraising tournament on the new Astro Turf pitch in The Abbey School, Tipperary Town
Tipperary Meals on Wheels, with the help of the West Tipperary Social Hurling Group, otherwise known as West Tipp Slashers, will host a fundraising initiative on this Saturday January 6.
The event will feature 14 teams playing 21 matches on the new Astro Turf pitch in The Abbey School, Tipperary Town.
Social Hurling is a great outlet for those interested in playing hurling after retiring from club hurling and is aimed at over 40s.
Saturday will see teams from Kilkenny, Kildare, Tipperary, Clare, Dublin, Carlow, Cork and Wexford going toe to toe.
The money raised will go towards upgrading the kitchen in the Tipperary Meals on Wheels Centre in St Michael’s Street, Tipperary Town.
Over the last few years, Tipperary Meals on Wheels have started some upgrades to the building but in particular the kitchen.
The final part of the plan is to upgrade the flooring from old ceramic tiles to non-slip, hygienic commercial kitchen flooring. This project itself will cost in the region of €8, 000. This fundraiser will go directly towards the costs of this project.
The 21 matches on Saturday will begin at 12 noon, with the LM Maulers from Wexford taking on Gortnahoe/Glengoole Social Hurlers from Tipperary. At the same time Castlecomer from Kilkenny will play Sixmilebridge from Clare.
There will be matches every 20 minutes up to 4.30 pm, with a total of 21 matches of eight players a-side.
People are very welcome to come along on the day and Tipperary Meals on Wheels will provide refreshments in the Abbey Sports Hall.
