This years team will look to win silverware like the panel that beat Mitchelstown CBS in the TUS Corn Dhonnacha Uí Nuanáin Cup final last year(pictured)
The great work taking place in Abbey CBS is paying off as they are standing strong as the last Tipperary school still in the prestigious Corn Uí Mhuirí football competition.
After a decade-long absence the Tipperary school returned this school year to the top level of Munster schools football following a meteoric rise in recent years, when they won the Munster B competition twice and were narrowly pipped last spring at Bekan in Mayo in the schools All-Ireland B final.
Since last September they have knuckled down and after some quality performances so far this term - including a massive two point win over St. Patrick’s of Castleisland in their opening game - Abbey CBS from Tipp Town are in the Munster U19A schools football quarter-final.
Tipperary football legend Conor Sweeney is part of the management team alongside Sean Mullins at Abbey CBS but they will be underdogs today and will need key players such as top scorer Joseph O’Dwyer (Knockavilla Kickhams) along with midfielder Adam Ryan (Arravale Rovers) and Stephen Carey (Aherlow) to come up trumps against strong opponents.
They beat Hamilton HS, Bandon last time out with Tipperary minor Shane Quigley striking four points from play and he will need his scoring boots on again this afternoon when they take on Tralee CBS in a massive contest.
This game is sure to draw the crowds and it throws in at 1.45pm this afternoon in the University of Limerick (UL 4G pitch).
The winners of Abbey versus Tralee will take on the winners of the clash between Colaiste na Sceilge (Caherciveen) and Patrician Academy (Mallow). That game was fixed for 1pm today but is now called off and will be refixed. The full fixtures list is here:
