The line of walkers taking part in one of the Winter Solstice walks to Knockshanahullion peak
The Rhododendron Walking Festival’s Winter Solstice sunset and sunrise walks last month were a tremendous success attracting 280 walkers.
The walks have become a very popular event and a ritual for a lot of the participants.
Many thanks to everyone who travelled to the Galty Vee Valley to take part in the guided walks to Knockshanahullion peak overlooking Clogheen on December 22 and 23.
Unfortunately, there was no sun on display for the walks but that didn’t deter the hikers from enjoying a magnificent overall experience.
There was welcome refreshments and great entertainment was provided for the hikers at St. Paul’s Community Centre, Clogheen after both walks.
The Rhododendron Walking Festival Committee thanks all the volunteers and stewards who assisted with both walks and in the hall.
The next event for the committee is the annual Rhododendron Walking Festival on the June Bank Holiday weekend.
