The Sologhead Heritage Group organised a small local ceremony on Sunday, January 21 to mark the 105th anniversary of the Sologheadbeg ambush.

Wreaths were laid by Fergal O’Connor on behalf of the Heritage Group and Sean Allis on behalf of relatives of those involved in the ambush. Both Fergal and Sean are themselves closely related to men who were present in Sologheadbeg that day.

Michael Ryan spoke briefly to the attendance about the consequences of those in power denying the aspirations of a disaffected population.

On what was a very inclement day a very welcome cup of tea and sandwiches were provided by Pat Toomey in the local pub.

Credit for organising the event goes to group chairman Oliver Coffey.
