Footpaths in many areas are in need of upgrading
Ongoing issues in relation to roads and footpaths were highlighted at the recent Tipperary/Cahir/Cashel Municipal District meeting.
A motion on the agenda was that the Council would work with the TII and the Clonmel Borough District to carry out safety measures to improve visibility at the junction at Suirhaul on to the N24 as it is poorly lit and dangerous for motorists.
Councillor Mairin McGrath said that “the road on the N24 is in the Clonmel area but the road coming off it isn’t, so that’s the issue,” she said adding that the relevant section of the L3124 road “needs to be looked at” to ensure it is safe for those using the route.
Councillor McGrath also brought a motion that the Council would carry out traffic calming measures in Goatenbridge village to improve pedestrian safety between the car-park and the GAA grounds.
“People speed straight through and in addition the traffic calming or speed feedback signs on both ends of Goatenbridge are out of action and need to be replaced. One was hit by a lorry and broken and I understand the battery was stolen out of another feedback sign so they need attention,” she said.
Cllr McGrath also highlighted how many areas in the District were neglected and also spoke of the state of the footpaths on upper main street Ballyporeen, where the surface is poor and lifting.
“It has been brought to my attention a few times by a number of residents there,” she said adding that the issue has been a problem for some time but it still isn’t addressed.
Councillor Marie Murphy agreed with Cllr McGrath saying she had an issue with cars parking on footpaths in Ballyporeen as well.
“I know there has been interaction with the local Gardai,” she said while enquiring to the Council if the Gardai had done anything about the issue. The Council responded by saying that they hadn’t heard back from An Garda Síochána in relation to the matter
