The camogie blitz has become a great way to have fun and get fit
The Camogie Association is excited to announce the re-launch of the Social Camogie initiative, which offers clubs nationwide the chance to embrace a program where friends, mothers, family members, and others can engage in Camogie for leisure and enjoyment. Participants must be at least 25 years of age, be a member of the club where they are taking part in the initiative and should not currently be involved in competitive adult Camogie, such as club competitions, league, cup, or inter-county play https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv_uFVIiZOk
In 2019, the Association initiated a trial phase for the program under the name "Caman N Chats," providing clubs the opportunity to form teams and recruit interested individuals to help expand the initiative within their local clubs and communities. Through the organisation of various provincial and national blitz events, the program has gained momentum and has proven to be popular among women of all ages.
The Association's goal for 2024 is to advance this initiative under the newly established title "Social Camogie" and to enlist more participants across the country who are keen to engage in Camogie within a fun, non-competitive, and socially relaxed setting.
During the program's re-launch, Uachtarán of the Camogie Association, Hilda Breslin, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "Social Camogie is a fantastic initiative designed to promote the sport of Camogie among women of all ages and abilities, while providing an opportunity for participants to enjoy playing in a non-competitive environment. Many of our former players find it challenging to return to competitive level training and play due to work and family commitments, and Social Camogie offers them a chance to reconnect with the sport in a relaxed and enjoyable manner.”
