Premier Hall - In a dazzling display of talent and nostalgia, Students of CBS Thurles recently brought the iconic musical and Grease to life, leaving the audience tapping their feet and singing along to the timeless tunes of the 1950s.
The school’s production of Grease was nothing short of spectacular, featuring a stellar cast, energetic dance numbers, and a vibrant atmosphere that captured the essence of the beloved musical.
Under the direction of Musical Director Deirdre Ryan Preston, the students showcased their dedication, passion, and flair for the arts, turning the school auditorium into Rydell High for a night to remember.
The cast, comprised of students from first to sixth year, supported by Transition Year students from the Presentation and Ursuline Secondary Schools.
The cast included seasoned performers and emerging talents, and delivered outstanding performances that transported the audience straight into the heart of the 1950s.
The lead roles of Danny Zuko and Kenickie were expertly portrayed by Jamie O’Mahony and Philip Connolly, who, not only captured the character’s essence, but also brought their own charm and charisma to the stage.
Others in the cast included Sean Brett playing Sonny, Daniel Ryan playing Sonny, Paddy Quinlan playing Roger, Royer Fyler playing Teen Angle and Mr Lynch, Kevin Ryan playing Vince Fontaine, William Kinnane playing Johnny Casino and Jack Kennedy playing Eugene.
The musical numbers, including classics like Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin and You're the One That I Want, were met with enthusiastic applause and cheers.
The choreography, led by Gemma O’Dwyer and TY students added an extra layer of excitement to the production, with dance sequences that were both lively and skilfully executed.
The sets and costumes transported the audience back in time, with meticulousattention to detail that captured the spirit of the 1950s.
The collaborative efforts of the production team, set designers, and costume crew were evident in every scene, creating a visually stunning backdrop for the performers.
Audience members, including parents, teachers, and fellow students, praised the school’s production for its professionalism, creativity, and the undeniable joy it brought to the community.
The infectious energy of Grease resonated throughout the auditorium, turning the musical into a collective celebration of talent and teamwork.
Mary Lloyd, Director, expressed pride in the hard work and dedication exhibited by the cast and crew, stating:
“Our students have truly outdone themselves. Grease is a challenging production, and they embraced it with enthusiasm, delivering a performance that exceeded all expectations.”
As the curtain closed on the final night of Grease, the echoes of applause lingered, marking the end of a successful run for yet another CBS Thurles musical extravaganza.
