Carrick-on-Suir Musical Society has announced the cast for its annual show, 9 to 5 The Musical, that will be staged at the Strand Theatre from April 20 to 27.
A hectic schedule of rehearsals is in full swing for the comedy show based on the hit 1980s film starring Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.
Carrick Musical Society Chairman Caolan Deehy-Power, who is the show’s Assistant Director, said rehearsals started back on January 3 and are taking place at the Strand several nights a week with the principal cast members rehearsing their roles four nights a week.
Sandra Power, Ashley Lonergan and Jordan Freeman are taking on the female lead roles of office workers Violet, Judy and Doralee respectively. Neill Bourke is playing their boss, Franklin Hart.
Tarryn Attlee plays Roz while Bobby Landers plays the role of Joe and Ryan Barnes is cast as Josh.
Siobhan Grace-Regan is Kathy, Claire O’Hara plays Maria and Maria Rayner is Margaret in the show.
Other principal cast members include Emma O’Leary who takes on the role of Missy, Eoin Sheedy, who plays Dick; Kyle Walsh, who is Bob and Padraig Sheehan, who plays Mr Tinsworthy.
The Director is Martin McNelis, who has directed the Musical Society’s previous two annual musicals – The Phantom of The Opera and Chess.
Eamon O’Malley is both the Musical Director and Chorus Master, Keith Dwyer-Greene is Choreographer and Claire O’Hara is the Dance Captain.
Caolan says they would welcome more volunteers to join their team of pit singers for the musical. These singers play an important role in adding volume to choral numbers particularly during scenes with a lot of dancing.
Many of the songs in 9 to 5 were written by country music legend Dolly Parton and audiences can look forward to hearing numbers like “Heart to Hart”, “Shine Like The Sun” and, of course, the Grammy Award winning “9 to 5”.
Caolan says this light hearted show will be different to the Musical Society’s past two annual shows, which were very dramatic with a dark side to them.
Tickets for “9 to 5 The Musical” are expected to go on sale in early April.
