The Sisters of Charity school community in Clonmel recently had the privilege of hosting a visit by two-time Olympian Thomas Barr.
The school was buzzing with excitement as the Waterford athlete arrived to share his experiences and insights with eager pupils.
Thomas Barr, a hurdler, was warmly welcomed with chants and excitement, and the entire school community gathered to hear his words of wisdom.
As Barr addressed the assembly, he spoke passionately about his journey as an athlete, emphasising the values of perseverance and determination.
The pupils hung onto his every word, inspired by his achievements and the challenges he overcame in his Olympics career to date.
The highlight of the day came when the students surprised Thomas with a heartwarming rendition of their newly composed Dare To Believe anthem, showcasing their talent and enthusiasm.
The performance aimed to encourage Barr to support Team Ireland’s #daretobelieve campaign, and the spirited response from the pupils left a lasting impression on the Olympian.
Following the musical tribute, Thomas Barr engaged in a lively question and answer session with the Active School Committee and Sixth Class students.
The pupils learned about his training routines, favourite moments and the importance of a positive mindset.
The entire event proved to be a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on the school.
As the pupils returned to their classrooms, the echoes of Thomas Barr’s visit lingered in the hallways, reminding them that with dedication and a belief in themselves, they too can overcome hurdles and achieve greatness in their lives.
The school community wishes Thomas Barr every success in the weeks and months to come as he continues his preparations for the Paris Olympics in the summer.
