Suirside 3 – 2 Rosegreen Rangers

Suirside took all three points here in a huge game in their push for promotion against a very game Rosegreen side at Grange on Sunday.

The home side started brightly and should have been a goal up in the eighth minute when good work by Gavin Sheehan set up John Darmody, but his shot was brilliantly saved by the Rosegreen ‘keeper.

In the 20th minute, it was Rosegreen who took the lead when the Suirside defence failed to deal with in innocuous cross and the ball fell to Darren Corbett, who coolly finished to the net from six yards.

Suirside continued to press and they were level eleven minutes from the break when Gavin Sheehan tapped in from close range.

There were no more goals before the break, but the home side continued to play well at the start of the second period and they took the lead with a goal from a corner when Colm O’Gorman headed to the net just on the hour-mark.

They extended the lead 15 minutes from time when John Allen Lowes took advantage of some excellent play by his team mates to score from 12 yards, and made the game look safe. But Rosegreen Rangers kept fighting and pulled a goal back in the final minute when Luke Quinlan scored after a mix-up in the Suirside defence. For the last few minutes, Rosegreen threw everything at the hosts but Suirside held on to take the precious points.

Moyglass United 1 – 1 Powerstown

Moyglass United put a dent in Powerstown’s fading title hopes when they held them to a draw at Moyglass United on Sunday.

The game was pretty even for most of the first half, with what few chances that were created falling to the away side, but they were easily dealt with by the Moyglass ‘keeper. However, Powerstown finally managed to take the lead ten minutes before the break when a long ball over the defence was controlled well by Aaron Kiely, and he fired a shot across the ‘keeper into the top corner with an excellent finish.

Moyglass United, however responded well, and were level within five minutes when Johnny Gleeson came up from left back and hit a thunderous shot that could only be parried by the ‘keeper into the path of the inrushing Niall Doocey, and he made no mistake from six yards.

There were no more goals in the game, with the defences on top, and the teams had to be satisfied with a share of the spoils.
