The Mooreabbey Milers teams who both took team bronze medals in the County Tipperary Intermediate Road Championships held in Galbally on Sunday last.
The chase was on last Easter Sunday morning around the village of Galbally for the County Intermediate title, which was the second race in the county road championship season hosted on home ground by Mooreabbey Milers AC.
A 4k chase for the ladies and an 8k chase for the men eventually saw Louise Fogarty of Moyne AC take the women’s title and Emmet McNamara of Fethard AC take the men’s title. The team titles were won by Moyne AC (ladies) and Dundrum AC (men).
Bronze was the colour for the club with three of our ladies and four of our men securing the third podium position.
Deirdre Bailey, Noelle O’Brien and Martina Moloney were the A team bronze team medallists with Marie O’Shea, Patricia Ryan and Mary O’Connell completing the B team in seventh position.
Sean Landers, Kevin Lenihan, Willie O’Donoghue and Robert Cunningham were the A team bronze team medallists with Damien Holian, Gerard Hanley and Dariusz Gazdowicz completing the B team in sixth position.
What was a glorious day at sunrise soon turned to a downpour shortly before the start of the ladies’ race and only eased after the tea and sandwiches. The runners were not the only ones braving the wet conditions; race director Mary Louise Ryan with help from the Cunningham family, the Ryan/O’Dwyer family, Tom and Patricia Blackburn, Derrick Ryan, Des Lane, Michael Fitzgerald, Michael and Michelle Carey, John Hayes, Liam Lewis, Davena Flynn, Stuart Moloney, Paddy Bourke and Lynda Hynes were all out to make sure everything ran smoothly.
MARY AND MICHELLE CONQUERED BALLYBUNION
The Run Ballybunion Half Marathon is blessed with a unique route that winds through the north Kerry vistas along the Wild Atlantic Way. While challenging hills are interspersed along the route, the scenic views atop each and every one of them are enough to motivate each climb. Taking on this challenge at the weekend were Mary Hinchy and Michelle Carey.
