Cashel Courthouse where the hearing took place this morning
A judge adjourned the planning enforcement prosecution against a county Tipperary man over his unauthorised log cabin home for a further two months at Cashel District Court this morning (Thursday, April 4).
Judge Brian O'Shea adjourned the Tipperary County Council planning enforcement case of 65-year-old Sean Meehan of Woodinstown, Cahir to the June 6 sitting of the court for mention.
He adjourned the case after Mr Meehan's solicitor Colin Morrissey informed the court that his client has engaged with the Council in relation to social housing and there will be a parallel planning application submitted for retention of his log cladded house.
Mr Meehan was present in court for the brief hearing that lasted less than two minutes. He had feared he would be sent to prison for failing to comply with an order issued at the court four months ago to remove his home.
A large crowd of about 60 supporters of Mr Meehan gathered outside Cashel Courthouse during the hearing. They greeted him with a cheer and handshakes after he emerged from the court.
Mr Meehan previously appeared before the Cashel Court last December for non-compliance with a planning enforcement notice served on him on June 3 2022 by failing to remove his log cladded home and its outbuildings, failing to disconnect the building from all utilities and services and failing to undertake works to restore the site to agricultural use.
He was directed at that court sitting to remove the log cladded house or face imprisonment and the case was adjourned to today, April 4.
