Powerstown 3 – 0 Cashel Town
Powerstown did their own promotion hopes no harm on Sunday, when they took all three points in their tie against Cashel Town.
In the game itself, Cathal McKeown’s rich vein of form continued, scoring after just nine minutes. A clipped pass from Aaron Hannigan found Conor McGrath, who somehow managed to play McKeown through while falling backwards, and the striker made no mistake with his finish.
McKeown was unlucky not to grab a second moments later, but his effort was touched over by the keeper and out for a corner.
Cashel Town failed to create any substantial chances throughout the half, and the home side went to the break in front.
The second goal came five minutes into the second period, when Brendan Boland won the ball in midfield, played it off to Gino Lonergan who put the ball in behind for Cathal McKeown, and he added to his tally with a cool finish.
The visitors best chance of the half came on the hour mark, but some excellent defending by the home side kept the visitors out.
Minutes later, the destination of the points was sealed when Gino Lonergan got the third goal for the hosts. A quick throw from Cathal McKeown deep in the Town half found Aaron Kiely, and when his effort was parried by the keeper into the path of Lonergan the veteran found the back of the net with a tap in.
