The Grand Finale in Duhill Hall 11/4/24 Fundraiser for Ballylooby/Duhill Parish Lourdes Fund & Vee Valley Day Care Centre
Duhill Crooners Variety Concert
Duhill Community Hall was packed to capacity for two nights for the Duhill Crooners variety concert in aid of Ballylooby Duhill Lourdes Fund and The Vee Valley Day Care Centre. This was indeed a community effort.
The audiences were treated to a variety of music poetry and song.
The show opened with fantastic music played by the Murphy School of Music. Boys and girls playing fiddles and banjos lifted the roof with the opening set. They got a rapturous response to their very first public performance.
The audience was treated to a variety of songs from a Lady Gaga number sang by Shannon Coffey to Tommy Meehan’s unique version of “Do you want your old lobby washed down” made famous by Brendan Shine to the “The way I Am” sung by Brendan McCarthy and ‘The Old Rugged Cross’ and ‘Isle of Hope’ sung beautifully by Fiona Myles and Claire Morrissey.
Despite some technical glitches on Wednesday ‘Laurel and Hardy’ and ‘The Four Spanners’ had the audience crying with laughter on both nights.
The singers were accompanied by very talented musicians, Eddie Golden on keyboard, Fidelma Nugent on piano accordian, Claire Morrissey on button accordian; the multi talented Murphy sisters, Lorraine and Fiona who played fiddle, bodhran and banjo; the Browne sisters, Megan and Abbie, played the flute and tin whistle. There were two fantastic guitarists Brendan McCarthy and Liam Hunter whose musical talents are to be greatly admired and as well as performing individually accompanied many of the participants.
Huge thanks must go to all who helped make this show a success, tickets sellers, Seamus Hennessy for his sound system, Duhill Community Council for the use of the hall for rehearsals, Duhill Dramatic Society for the wonderful lightning system, Cahir GAA for the lending us the raffle drum at short notice.
Special thanks to the two outlets Noel O’Donnell’s in Cahir and Colm Browne’s Spar in Clogheen, who generously allowed the selling of raffle tickets at their premises and also to all their patrons who purchased same.
Finally, a very big thank you to all who attended on both nights, to those who bought raffle tickets and to our main sponsor Camida also Rhino Network Solutions and other sponsors who wish to remain anonymous. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Two great local charities are the beneficiaries of your generosity.
