Cashel King Cormacs overcame the challenge of Clonoulty/Rossmore in a highly entertaining Berties Bar Dundrum, Crosco Cup Quarter Final at Leahy Park Cashel on Thursday evening.

Played before a small crowd on a cold wet evening, the players served up a hugely entertaining game, with the sides level on four occasions throughout.

Clonoulty/Rossmore got off to the better start and a goal from Jack Ryan after three minutes set them up for a 1.5 to 0.1 lead by the sixth minute.

Cashel, however hit back with a goal from David McGrath and a point in quick succession and the gap was reduced to two by the quarter hour mark.

Clonoulty’s best spell in the game came between the fifteenth and eighteenth minutes when the hit 0.5 without reply.
Cashel came right back into the game before the break and replied with 1.4 to tie the game at the half time break on the score Clonoulty Rossmore 1.12, Cashel KC 2.9. Simon Delaney getting in for the goal on twenty minutes when he capitalised on a defensive error to find the net.

The second half started with a flurry of scores and the sides level on three more occasions during the opening six minutes, with Cathal Bourke and Devon Ryan involved in a shootout.

Clonoulty’s second goal came following a defence splitting run from Nathan Slattery before setting up Cathal Bourke, who made no mistake from close-in. The final ten minutes was edge of the seat stuff.

Firstly, Robert Doyle found the net following a quick free from Jack Ryan to put the visitors four up with nine minutes remaining. Cashel then hit back to outscore their opponents by 1.4 to 0.2 in the final seven minutes.

Two overturned short puckouts from Clonoulty were punished, firstly by Ross Bonnar when he split the posts. The second turnover came four minutes from time when Ger Browne goaled from close in to put the home side two up.

Jack Ryan put the minimum between the sides before Browne and Cathal Bourke traded points as Cashel held out and now play Eire Og in the semifinal.
